Earth, Wind, and Fire rose to prominence during the ‘70s to late ‘80s. They released their debut self-titled debut album in 1971 with much critical acclaim. The record spawned the slightly successful single, “Love is Life,” entering the Billboard Hot 100 at number 93. Two years later, Earth, Wind and Fire achieved their first breakthrough upon releasing their fourth album, Head to the Sky. The studio effort was preceded by moderately successful singles, “Evil” and “Keep Your Head to the Sky,” peaking at numbers 50 and 52 on the Billboard Hot 100. In 1975, the band released their first number 1 song, “Shining Star,” featured in their first number 1 album, That’s the Way of the World. Three years later, Earth, Wind and Fire released the megahit “September,” which became one of their landmark singles. In 1981, the band released their 11th studio album, Raise! The record was preceded by another landmark hit, “Let’s Groove,” followed by “Wanna Be With You” and “I’ve Had Enough.”
Earth, Wind and Fire has received numerous accolades, including seven Grammy Awards and four American Music Awards. In 2000, the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. This prestigious honor was followed by the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2003 and the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2010. The band has released 21 studio albums, four live albums, and 17 compilation albums. They have sold over 90 million records worldwide, making them one of the best-selling bands of all time.
